With a lot of anticipation, my mother made it to her 100th Birthday on Dec 22, 2013.

Not with even more problems - on Dec 11 Wednesday she was the guest of honor at the Sacred Heart Society Christmas Dinner which went well. The next day we had to go to a wake for my cousin's mother-in-law who was 101 and the funeral the next day with a luncheon in the same room of the restaurant we were in on Wednesday.

Turned out that many people got sick from the first dinner and it hid my mother on Saturday when she passed out after the first bout that afternoon - had to call 911 and off to the ER - did not get out until 1:30 a.m. the next day. That was supposed to be a surprise party of the family from all over but she missed it - we had told her it was for another relative's birthday.

The next event was on her birthday with a Mass in her name at 10 a.m. and a tea and treats in the parish hall afterwards. The deacon had sent for a papal blessing with a beautiful framed photo of Pope Francis on the document. My cousin Monica received the papal blessing in her name. I sent for a Presidential Greeting (not personalized, unfortunately). Her friends did a lot of work for the tea, but she did not have the strength to attend. One had the mayor read a proclamation from the city at church.

After two months of recovery she is back doing her housework that she was so worried about - but worrying me now. Had to cut her increased BP back to what it was to get her there - and then tell the docs that it worked.

Some losses in the family this year, which did not help but she is back reading 3 or more books a week, cooking, crocheting, and bugging me about things.

Dave

Congratulations to your Mother on her 100th! Sorry to hear that your Mother and others got sick at the church supper. Did they ever find out what it was. I hope that it wasn't the Norovirus, where you are having it coming out of both ends. It seems to be hitting people around here that aren't even taking cruises.

Great to hear that her Birthday celebration went off without side effects and that your Mother is back to her normal routine.

Stay warm.

Hi Gil again,

My mother is doing well enough to go to the Chapel for the last two days which she has not been able to since last December. Still doing stuff around the house - because she has to.

She just finished another book - by Sue Grafton - and is now on another Danielle Steel - the other is a newer one by Catherine Coulter and another author - she already read all the books by that author at the library. I have xerox copies of the published books so I can cross them out as I take them out of the library so she won't get one she has read already.

She actually did miss the big family party - they videoed it for her - and the Mass and tea and treats at the Church hall. I think she did not want all the attention anyway.

Another loss though, in addition to her last sister - this time my aunt, sister of my birth mother at 97. She had dementia for years. Her daughter came all the way from Conn. twice a month to see her.

My daughter is trying to buy a 1998 Monte Carlo - she needs this to bring Shania to and from school (safer) and the other tasks. I will feel better when she gets that.

Have to go and see what Ebbie is doing - No-Name Kat is asleep on my bed.

Take care,

Dave

Man I am REALLY late! Dave congrats on your mom's 100th! What a milestone. Why did everyone get sick? Was it flu or food poisoning? Thankfully she got over it ok!!

Yes, we have had a few losses ourselves over the last year. Its so sad to see those we love leave us, isn't it?

Did your daughter end up buying the car? Those cars are solid. My first car accident I hit one and not even a dent! Then again I had a Datsun B210 and nothing happened to that either. My Jetta (the car I have now) seems to dent so easily....
