Thought I'd introduce you to my little black feathered friend. He's a proud dad right now and it's just facinating to watch him feeding his offspring, (who now is almost as big as his dad!)
Every morning whenever I first go out to the back garden he comes right down to meet me to wait for his bread and apple and if I dont feed him straight away he lets me know about it. Blackbirds have a lovely 'song' and its especially nice to hear them singing their hearts out early in the evening.

On this occasion 'Blackie' decided to have some of the songbird seed from the feeder in my front garden and I was lucky to get this photograph showing a seed in its beak (taken through glass again Gil that's the reason for the 2 light patches on the bird must have been a reflection from the window)

We can learn a lot watching all the wildlife around us, it's just so facinating -and I may add-- 'costly too' especially when they keep inviting all their friends over for breakfast, dinner and supper Dancing Dancing Dancing Dancing

Beautiful picture! One of these days I have to figure how to get pictures of some of the birds that com to our feeder. We've had a pair of love doves or mourning doves the past few afternoons! These two would probably be a good picture.

If I'm correct I think we name them collared doves they are light grey and have a white half circle around their necks?
After Bob died I drew the design I wanted put on the headstone.
On the left hand side was a tree with 2 collared doves at the top with a photograph with both of us in the top middle and ivy trailing half way down the other side. with the inscription in the middle and a cross at the bottom.
My reason for this was because we had always watched two of those birds coming year in year out to our bird table and Bob always joked, laughed and said 'you never know that could be you and me in the future'
I've still got them coming to the feeder, guess it must be the 4th 5th generation must try a get a photogrpah just to see if they are the same type you are writing about. Those birds definately bring back lots of memories. If only we could turn the clock back even for a short time -it would be just wonderful!

Ever felt like giving yourself a real hard kick on the butt!!

Last night I went outside and there was my blackbird sitting on the top part of my roof - the light was fading but it was lovely and he was singing his heart out. I rushed in and got my camera put it on video section and filmed him sitting there + the sound it was just fantastic. checked it on the camera when i got back in and yes it had recorded perfectly. Next job to transfer the images from the camera to my picture folder so I could post it here to let you all share this wonderful sight/sound.
Still havent found a quick way to transfer images from camera to picture folder so I do it by copy and paste. Job done succesfully then why I did this I dont know because I have loads of room on the card in the camera but I decided to delete some of the images on the camera bet you've already guessed what happened d'oh! I was so busy deleting I hadnt noticed I had accidently gone back into my picture folder and had just started deleting images there by mistake - yes the ONLY one that got deleted from the camera AND the picture folder was my masterpiece. I feel really angry with myself Now I have to try again.

Digital cameras are great, but it is too easy to delete pictures. I've noticed that my camera is so delicate that I hit the delete button while looking at pictures. Terrible to have clumsy fingers!

Thanks for posting all of the pictures of your blackbird family! What a coincidence about you putting doves on your husbands grave stone as we put a male cardinal on my Mother's side of my parents grave stone. My mom just loved cardinals. We still have them around the yard. My wife got out the hummingbird feeder Saturday afternoon and had hummingbirds feeding form it within an half an hour to an hour!

That was a nice thing to do re the 'cardinal' on your mum's grave stone.
I'm glad I did that on ours. Next time I'm up at the cemetry I'll take a picture of it.

We dont get humming birds here wish we did. What do you put in the feeder? For some reason, I dont know why, but in my mind there is a recollection that they fed on a 'nectar' (sugary syrup) but it may be you need special seed like I have to put out for the goldfinches (niger seeds)and the greenfinches--must say those finches have very expensive tastes the niger seed is almost 3 times the price of the normal wild bird seed. I also get a special 'songbird mixture for the robins etc.
My neighbour has a bird feeding station like mine and when they go off on holiday I think all 'her regulars' come to me while they're away-(I DO notice a difference on how often I have to fill up the feeders when they are away)

Havent seen the collared doves for a few days (must know I was wanting to take their photograph)but now I have a family of wood pigeons coming its facinating to watch them drinking they seem to keep their beak in the water all the time until they have had enough to drink whereas the other small birds just takes 'sips' at a time.
Must label the pigeons as 'Heavy Drinkers' Good job its just 'Adams Wine' I put out for them to drink Dancing Dancing

In the United States they are called Morning (Mourning?) Doves. We have quite a few of them that come to my feeders. I enjoy watching them at mating time when the males chase the females around on the ground.

My hummers are back. I'm going to post a sweet video of a fellow who rescued a baby hummer.

The video has already been posted, Emmy. It's under a new topic all by itself in the pet category.
