Would you believe it They say talk of the devil and he will appear.
I just said the other day I hope we dont get any late frost because I have the blossom on the plum trees just now. No prizes for guessing what happened last night -YES we had an overnight frost and I didnt watch the weather forecast on TV and I didnt have the tree covered I had meant to go and buy fleece to put over the trees at night just in case but I didnt get around to going to the store to get it. Tonight I've put a makeshift cover on the tree an old thin duvet and some thin curtains -What next ' tucking the trees up to sleep now!!! d'oh! d'oh! d'oh! d'oh!
Tomorrow first thing I'll go down town and purchase the proper 'fleece' just in case the neighbours see this contraption and decide their neighbour has finally 'flipped her lid!!'

The crazy weather continues! I read that it was so cold in London that it took some of the enjoyment away from the holiday. I hope your trees are okay!

The trees seem to be OK so far but I did go to my garden centre yersterday and bought some of the proper fleece AND I spent a fortune while I was there d'oh!
I decided I really needed to get some more compost and then I had a look at some of the plug plants that had just been delivered and decided I'd be better going for them rather than planting seeds-- Didnt stop at that - bird seed for the wild birds, fat balls too now I was going to have a look at the garden ornaments but for some reason I changed my mind---good job too when I saw the total on my bill. Whistle Whistle Whistle
I was given help with getting all the purchases into the car It was getting everything out of the car when I got home that was the problem.

So far we've not had any more frost so I've still not needed to put the fleece on the trees.

Do you have any pictures of trees with fleece on them? I don't think I've ever seen that. Thanks.

Gil after I have had my cup of tea I'll go out and put the fleece on one of the trees and take a photograph and post it later tonight.
Pity it wont be possible to take a video of me trying to do this as I think that 's going to be hilarious me putting the tree to bed!! all I'll need now will be Boo hoo! Boo hoo! Boo hoo!
I have a 'grabber' that helps me to pick things up off the floor which I use when I'm feeling lazy so I think that will come in useful to get it over the top of the tree. Dancing Dancing Dancing

Be back later.

Here you are Gil
The bottom photograph shows how you would purchase it from the garden centre I think its about 1 1/2 metres wide and I bought two lots of 1 1/2 metres in length. What I hadn't thought about was that it will need to be secured to the tree with ties of some sort becasue unlike the previous cover I put on the tree this fleece could quite easily blow off, but it will be very simple to do that.
I think the tree looks quite cute- dont you?? Dancing Dancing Dancing

It looks like the material that we call "cheese cloth". I think that cheese cloth's original use was to drain liquid out of cheese while it is made. A lot of people now use it to cover berry bushes so the birds don't eat the berries. I've also seen it used to cover plants to protect them from frost. Clod here but no frost yet. There is always a chance for frost here until after the last full moon in May.

Yes your right Gil it does look like a bit like 'cheese cloth'
I have just posted in another section about what I'm trying out now.
At night in the greenhosue as well as using the fleece I'm covering some of the plants using newspaper I think it will work just as well providing I put it over the plants early evening before it gets too cold.
Will post and let you know if it works if it doesnt, then, even if your in USA you'll HEAR me (I'll be shouting loud enough) Dancing Dancing

I've heard that you have to cove plants before it gets too cold. My neighbor covers her plants mid afternoon, just before the sun starts setting.
