A Politcian died and when he arrived at the Heavenly Gates he was met by St Peter.
“Good day my son, you have arrived just at the right moment. Today we can give you the choice if you want to stay in Heaven or go to Hell and to help you make your choice you’ll be allowed to visit both before you make your final decision.
So the Politician thought for a moment then decided he’d try the worst place first and told St Peter he would visit Hell first.
When he got there he was amazed, it was nothing like what he imagined it would be – he met many of his old friends and everyone was so happy and friendly, they were singing and dancing and they told him what a wonderful time they were having there and they were sure he’d be very happy if he came to Hell.
He then returned to St Peter and said he was now ready to visit Heaven.
He was shocked at the comparison - Here everything was quiet and very peaceful.
He thought about it and decided that it seemed the people in Hell were having a much better time. So he told St Peter he had decided that he would rather go to stay in Hell.
“Your wish is granted,” said St Peter and the Politician immediately, was sent to Hell.
When he arrived in Hell it wasn’t anything like what it had been on his visit – everything was dark, miserable no singing, no dancing and everyone was very unhappy.
On meeting a friend he asked, ”What has happened here, when I was here on my visit everyone was happy and telling me what a wonderful time I would have here in Hell?”
“Oh that’s easy to answer” said his friend.
“Yesterday we were canvassing for votes- today we got yours!”
