I always check the box to stay logged in. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

How are you all today?? Where is our fearless leader Simy???

It's sunny and cold here today.

Can you imagine on Facebook I connected with a fellow I had one date with in Honolulu 38 years ago??? He's going to send me a picture of us that his mom took. I'm so impressed that he remembered exactly what I was wearing down to the gold, snake arm bracelet. He even remembers what I said to his friend Scott to get him to talk to me. Wow, what a cheeky girl I was eh? Guess I never changed. Very Happy

Facebook is amazing. I haven't found any friends from that long ago. I wonder if your old date still has interests?

Here I am. But I'm not in a mood to talk or chat, so I just enjoy your posts.

Still asking about that pasta you make, Emmie. From the shape, mezzaluna is what comes to mind, but I am not sure.

My uncle was here for lunch and I asked him and my mother at the same time and they did not know of this dish. They did go back and forth describing different types, but each had a different name for some - my uncle with the Sicilian version from my grandfather, and my mother with the Molise version. It was pretty funny and I wish I had recorded it.

Meanwhile, I went to the library and looked at what they had - many Italian books which made it hard to decide. Did find a nice over-sized book by the editors of Saveur magazine with great photos and stories. And some dishes I never heard of or saw before, like the Sicilian tumala - this recipe by a cookbook author named Vincent Schiavelli which he learned from his grandfather, Andrea. Most of these are from family recipes, and photos from different parts of Italy and the Italian sections of the U.S. Recognized North Beach and Arthur Avenue in the Bronx right away. I have been waiting for my uncle to visit again to show him.

Several of my friends have invited me to Facebook, but I resist - just do not want to get involved with that. Certainly would like to be contacted by past dates though! Have been thinking of several, but especially one in Rhode Island, because of the flooding there. My Yahoo address is my bull name, just in case some friend might see it - even have one with a nickname just in case. Not many contacts so far, though one artist friend found me, luckily.

Some of my friends also have many years between siblings - actually my mother was 17 when her brother was born, and one girlfriend told me she was a 'surprise' with her next sister 14 years older. Certainly glad all of you are here too.

Oh yeah, the new Reminisce magazine came and my mother started on it right away. There is a contest to find a hatpin among the photos and articles and that can drive me crazy trying to find it. Very clever and I might say devious sometimes.

Dave

Thanks for posting the photos, Emmy - I saved the page and will show my mother tomorrow. The pasta remind me of pot stickers - or I am dreaming of eating.

At first I imagined meringue pie (Key Lime, specifically) but then recognized what you meant. The Aunts make those as well as others, the usual set.

Already found the hatpin - it was being held by a doll in the section about items that were kept over the years. Almost missed it. Most of the time the hatpin is in a photo, and there are limitations: can't be against a curved surface, like a person; the contrast is different against an old photo, so sometimes easier to spot; along car panels is a favorite place as well as benches or roofs.

The magazine is best in printed form to look through and there are more sections than the on line version. The stories and photos are submitted by contributors, so you are getting family history as well. It is out every other month, with Reminisce Extra in between. Aunt Gracie gave my mother a subscription and after she is done reading, it goes to other aunts and finally to the other people at the nursing home - they love it there too. Great gift for Mom or Dad.

Now I'm hungry...time to check on the cats too...already gave them a snack.

Dave
