Maybe could this be the reason because I can understand a bit of American and no British English at all??? Think

Now ! now! Simy You may understand a bit of American becase you have been there --twice now . I'm not so sure about America making English perfect - I think they just altered a few words to suit themselves!!
Now how about a wee shot at the Scottish version of the English language!!
Hoots Mon!! you would be thinking you were on another planet!!
eg It's a braw bricht moonlit nicht the nicht!! (It's a lovely bright moonlight night tonight)
other examples
dog --- (Scottish dialect)-dug
brush---- besom
slippers---baffies
ice-cream cone --- pokey-hat
money--- siller

I've just realised I do speak another foreign language
Applause

Mr. Green Mr. Green Mr. Green

I was kidding Emmy!

You're correct, maybe I can understand American just because I have been there. Wink

That was wonderful Emmy. It's hard to realize that you and others in other countries are typing away in English (on our account, otherwise we wouldn't understand) but thinking in your own language.

We were surprised too, when singers turn out to have accents, but sound 'American' when singing, e.g. the Beatles and more recently (a few years ago) when Shirley Manson of the group Garbage was on Late Night with Conan O'Brien. Certainly got him going when she switched to Scottish; talk about rolling your r's! She did say that her mother screamed when she heard the name of the group her daughter was in.

How about some more examples of Scottish and Romanian? The book "The Story of English" traces the Gaelic languages as well.

Dave, when I write in English I also try to think in English... even if it's hard for me too to realize that.. Anxious d'oh!
