I've been reading about "Naughty Nina" on a few of these forums and was was wondering if there is any more info on her. I hope the puzzle can be figured out and Nina proves to be her real name or a shortened version of her real name.

In my case, I knew my father as "Bud" until I was in about grade two. Only then did I learn that his name was actually "Harold". It seems that his older brother called him "brother" but it came out "budder". This ended up being shortened to "bud" and it stuck. My dad was known as "Bud" all his life. If I was trying to research him and only knew his nick name I would be at a dead end!!

The weirdest thing was one time when dad was in the hospital, there was another "Harold" in the same ward and you guessed it.... he was known as "Bud" too!!

Yes there have been some developments on the Naughty Nina Saga... I'm working on putting it all on a web site with other genealogical searches I've done plus one or two other things. So It's a case of 'watch this space'...

You mentioned your father and his nick name. Did you ever do any research on your family's origins? It really is intriguing when you start going back over time.

BTW - 'Nina' wasn't her real name but a nick name like your Dad's. Her name was Muriel the same as she gave my mother...

Yes, I am trying to research my paternal great grandfather. I have sent for a copy of his marriage to an Agnes McCulloch in Manitoba and also Agnes;s birth certificate. I am hoping my g grandfather's marriage certificate will also mention his parents names as I have no idea what they are. The only thing I know is my gg grandfather was a barrister in England and the last place my g grandfather lived before coming "over the pond" was Plymouth. apparently my g grandfather was spirited out of England by his father due to some legal trouble (a fight with a duke's son). I have not been able to find a ship's manifest for him although it is believed he came from Plymouth to Boston. It is said my gg grandfather paid a lot of money to get my g grandfather out of the country quickly. Unfortunately, my g grandfather has a very common name, Alfred Williams. His full name is Alfred Bryant Dussty Williams, Dussty being his mother's maiden name. I believe he was born in 1871 or 1872 in January.

Thank you. I really enjoy finding out about my family. It seems I am the only family historian even though I have four siblings. I want to gather the information and pass it down to my daughter. I hope she will keep it up to date as new records become available. I find myself wishing I had paid more attention to my father's stories while he was alive. Now, most of the information is lost as both my father and his brother have passed away. (they died the same month, same year).

HI Debbie Welcome to Amici
I looked up Alfred Bryant Williams and there is ONE Alfred Bryant Williams listed in the 1881 England Census in Ancestry.com but unfortunatley I dont have a subscription to Ancestry but perhaps someone could please check this out for Debbie to find out if it is her Ggrandfather.

Good luck with your search
Emmy

I don't think that is my g grandfather as I double checked my information and his birthday is 5 January 1872. 1867 is too early to be him. i think the only way to narrow it down is to look for his father through his occupation as a barrister but even that has limits as there is conflicting information on that front as well. Seems they had property and had a veterinarian practice there. I suppose that doesn't mean that my g grandfather was a veterinarian, someone else could be employed by him. From the little I know about this part of my family, they were well off financially. I wonder if there is any chance of finding them through land documents or taxes. I have sent away for his marriage record but I don't know if it will say who his parents are. Anyway, it will probably be the end of July before I receive it. They have told me it takes 12 weeks from the date they receive the request.

No news yet. I am not expecting to receive anything until July! Even though I know the process is a slow one, I eagerly await the arrival of my mail everyday. I hope it will not take the full 12 weeks this time. I will keep everyone posted.
Thanks so much for asking,
Debbie
