Well, first Angelina was practically made into a saint for doing the same, now Madonna get's all kinds of flack because it is said she hs been"paying off large sums " to the government to by-pass the legal system. The boy was in an orphanage sick with TB and pneumonia. His dad hardly ever visited, and his mom died from aides.
Hey, I'm no huge fan of Madonna's but I do think her intentions to help this child are sincere . She claims that the dad never asked for him back and that she has offered him [the father] money and he has refused. According to madonna, the father said to her and her husband, take the boy and give him a good home. As long the boy gets a good home and the money goes to the proper places, I'm not seeing the problem! It wouldn't be the first time money and clout were used to "move things along"!

I say give her a brake, the same way Branagelina were given!
He's a very lucky boy, this nice boy David. Very Happy

I think you're so right on this one Deb. After all, how many people would actually adopt such a sick child??

Hi Rosie!!!

He is such a cutie pie too.He already looks so happy and healthy. I don't think he would have survived had he stayed in Africa.

I haven't seen pictures of Madonna's adopted child but you're right that he wouldn't have survived had he stayed in Africa.

Elizabeth Taylor adopted a Russian child named Maria when she was a toddler. Liz knew the child needed corrective surgery for her legs (I think). Her own parents couldn't afford the surgery. No one criticized Liz
Taylor for doing this as I recall, so why should it be any different for Madonna?

Madonna probably saved this child's life and will give him opportunities he would never have in his own home land.

She is also helping to spot light the plight of these poor children and show everyone that it's okay to do so.

I remember Liz taylor's adopted daughter Rosie. She has given her a wonderful life. No one was doing that in those days.

Madonna at least has the financial means to give this child a great home. I'll see if I can find the photo of him and post it. he's just the sweetest little guy! Very Happy

I wish adoption were so easy for everyone. Unfortunately, my impression is that you need to have several thousand dollars (or tens of thousands) in order to adopt, and wait a few years ... and even then, you may not be successful.

Seems my husband only wants his own blood anyway (I asked him already, he changed the subject). If I had my "druthers", I'd adopt every special needs child I could find and give them all a better life. Including teenagers. Too many kids out there are unwanted because they have problems or differences. I live with it and I work with it.

But ..... this is no perfect world and that isn't my life (yet) .... I wish Madonna and Rosie and Angelina the best, and hope that some day, institutions make the adoption option more affordable, more accessible, more possible for the kids waiting for homes and families .... this subject just breaks my heart!!! Big Sad

This is the point, Kim. Waiting too many years.
A couple of friends of mine about 10 years ago tried to adopt a 6 years old child from Russia. This little girl had some health problems because she is born in Chernobyl area.
They had this girl only during summer time, for about a couple of months each year, and after that, she had to come back to Russia, waiting that documents were ready. But after lots of years, and after my friends went lots of time in Russia for these documents, they got the adoption when she was about 14 years old.
I know that authorities have to check the new family, its economic condition, etc, but I think that 8 years to have an adopted child are really too many.

One of my cousins in the U.S. adopted too children from Russia and at first they were actual brothers, but then, through a mix up, the two children they ended up with were actually not related.

Regardless, the process took over two years and the boys are very close and it was the best thing that my cousins ever did. They hope that the . Its not easy I guess to speed up some a complicated process especially when its in another country.
