I love burgandy, deep plumes, navy ,forest green, black and deep chocolate browns. Sometimes persimmons...for sweaters, that is...
My new winter coat is navy.

This is a strange question for me... When I see clothes that I like, I don't matter which color they are... I wear them! frizzy Mr. Green

Yes Simy - but supposing you saw something you liked, and there was a choice of colours -which would you choose?

For me - given a choice - I would go for burgundy, damson (dark plum), slate grey, navy blue or 'dark chocolate' brown!
In fact anything that is totally boring Shhh - but which I like!!!!Yahoo

I hear what you are saying Simy, but if you stop and look at your clothes you may notice a color theme.

The reason I write this is because my female coworkers here in the US would ask me what color themes I had in my house and like you, I was puzzled by the question and could not even answer. It must be an Italian thing, to just buy what you like and don't stop and think what colors they are. Finally one year, I stopped and listened and I did notice that they would talk about different parts of the house as having color themes... the bathroom mauve and peach, for example, the living room cream and blue, etc. etc.. , and all these color choices were done with great deliberation and purpose. So, I went home one day and looked at it from a more detached, critical eye. I did have a color theme in different rooms in the house! It seems whatever I like that I buy ends up matching colorwise, so consciously or subconsciously we are drawn to certain colors.

The reason I am taking so much time to explain is just to describe the subtle things that are culture driven that those of us that move to other countries are confronted with and add to the spice of life. I am sure that Carole has stories to tell on the subject. As far as I know we are the only two people in this forum born in one country and living in another.

Carole, I see we like similar colors! I forgot the slate grey... Very Happy

The reason I brought this up as a topic is because where I live, there is a trend towards different colors with different seasons....pale or bright colors like touquise, for summers, greens or rusts for fall, ect....wanted to see what everyone liked for winter. Of course, I would still like a pale blue sweater in winter! Think

Good point Maria regarding the cultural aspect of it! Very Happy Applause

Thinking back in my life, I had different colors depending my age...luckily for me most colours look good on me except very light colors like beiges ... then they die on me...I least I think they do...

Once I became aware of colors and since I don't wear makeup, don't have the patience for it, I like to use colors to complement my skin in clothes instead of eye shadows, lipstick and such...

I just love deep reds...like wine, burgundy, blood... don't you dare call it boring, Carole...

I go good in teal, turquoise, greens (have green eyes)... but right now it seems that I have mostly greys and navy... they look good on me but same-o same-o ....all my burgundies are either too old or don't fit me anymore (sigh!)... time to treat me with one this holiday season!

Debra, I like to wear lighter pastel colors in spring..it is still too cold here for 'spring clothes' and they are still winter heavy...but at least the colors are springlike....don't differentiate much between fall and winter, but for summer... I have a couple of orange like..apricot tops.. also some deep reds... I love them...

Well... here is my truth... d'oh!
I never look at clothes' colors carefully... An example? Today I've worn pink sweater, blue jeans, brown boots, black coat.... It's very rare I get a color theme. I do know that it could be wrong, but I never cared about colors. If I like a thing, I wear it without thinking of colors... Anxious

Anyway, one of my favorite color for clothes is blue navy.

Maria, my all time favorite color--Burgandy!!
Mine don't fit either... d'oh!
I'd always thought blondes looked great in red. My husband likes me in red though. I also love baby blue and verrrry pale pink--like a soft shell pink. Love mossy greens in the fall as well as pumpkin color and browns.

Marisa, a lot of my bottoms are black--or blue jeans!! Very Happy

Simy, I've done the same -! Though one time I almost ran out of the house with my slippers on. mea culpa

I have a lot of black too. I just bought two winter coats in black. I also love dark brown for winter.

My home has certain color themes as well. The kitchen is white on white with a bright red, ceramic tile wall. The great room has white walls and the largest furniture pieces are a tapestry floral love seat in shades of ivory, olive and predominately red. I matched the red color in the main sectional with the red florals in the love seat. Both pieces were custom made so that they would match perfectly. I love color and having things match perfectly.

I have to say, I dont have ANY black that I am wearing. I do have one black halter stashed away in the closet somewhere, but its way too cold for that! besides, it's only for going dancing Dancing

I used to wear a lot more black, but the last couple of years I've been into much brighter colors - my closit now consists mainly of pinks, purples, lime-ish greens, light silvery greys, a couple browns, and whites. I actually have a pair of chocolate brown cords that I love pairing up with the bright colors as they just pop! Although my brother teases me occasionally saying I look like I'm from 'That 70's Show'! I dont pay any attention to him though, as the only thing he ever wears in jeans and a t-shirt unless he's got an important meeting in which case he'll put on a suit Smile

Rosie, your home sounds absolutely gorgeous! Since we built this addition above my parents home, I have tried to give it a Tuscan , rustic feel--the walls in the kitchen are a soft mossy green with dark brown wrought iron accents such as the kitchen light...plus I have some ceramics from Italy that have the greens , yellows and terracotta colors in them for accents...

Lori,I'm starting to pull away from East coast thing here-- all black with black[gets a bit depressing!]--and although I really love black, I'm kinda tired of it . I do think it it can have a nice sophisticated look and it's a nice neutual "color" to pair things with. But the reason I have tons of it is mostly to make my bum look smaller]! Anxious I also like it as a bottom to pair with brighter colored tops similar to what you do with the dark brown pants--which by the way sounds yummy! I'm really loving those chocolate browns now.
But God forbid you go out to dinner in Manhatten and wear anything but black! Eh? I'm getting a bit tired of it all and rebelled and went out this summer and bought brightly colored tops to go with my jeans and I LOVE IT!! Dancing

Well just before Christmas my two English retired friends who live in the next village took me to a small 'outlet' that they had discovered in Morbegno just a little way farther down the valley. This place make this new kind of polypropilene thread from which they make mountain and ski clothing. This is totally wind and waterproof and had the added attraction of not letting sweat remain on your body if you are really warm inside these clothes and underwear.

The reason I'm telling you this is, that even though Maggie is a mountain walke - and I'm NOT - I just loved the colours of their windproof jackets. So bright and cheery - totally different from my usual black, brown, grey and navy blue coats/jackets that I usually go for. But of course they don't stock my size! Who stocks fitted tents these days Whistle ??? But the owner (a lovely lady) said that size was no problem - she took my measurements and they are making me a winter wind and water proof jacket in...wait for it....RED!

I've not had anything made-to-measure since my wedding dress... and that was nnnnnph years ago . I thought this would be really expensive, but it's only about 90 ($117) which I think is really good. They are only a small family firm, but I shall be getting some other things there too for the Alpine winters I'm sure. This polypropilene thread that they use feels as soft and light as cashmere - it's incredible.

They do have a website - though it's NOT one of those flash things, but I suspect it will become larger as they are now starting to do export orders to the USA.

BTW - LIOD means 'Ice' in Russian!
