Firenze.....ahhhhh just saying it's name I feel relaxed and homesickness. I love this citta soooo much! It is the most enchanting and magical place I have ever been too. I feel right at home when walkiing on the side streets, saying Ciao to a local, looking at a beautiful basilicas. I always say, if Firenze was a man I would marry him!!!

If you feel the same way as me....we will make great friends!!!

Let's discuss all the fabulous things about my husband!!!

Katerina,
but it makes sense you would love this city so much. However, it is not a husband to me but a grand lady, her ancient name being Fiorenza... city of flowers .... and you having a fiore in you name, no wonder you are attracted to each other!

Maria

My love affair of Italy was ignited in Florence in 1998. I was fortunate enough to study on scholarship and experience the city. My most vivid memory is hanging out in Piazza Michelangelo that overlooks the city, eating chocolate Magnums with my best friend and discussing how my firend would never get married because she thought it was an institution! Needless to say 3 years later she did marry! Very Happy

Florence is my favourite city in all of Italy too! I remember 'youth-hostelling' when I was student and getting in to Florence too late to get accomodation, so my friend and I slept on the pavement outside the church of Santa Maria Novella. We were woken up at about six am with beautiful warm sunshine on our faces and I have a vivid memory of the lovely oranges and terracottas of the buildings against the deep blue of the sky........ah - happy memories.....

Well here are all (well many) of you lucky people who have visited and love Firenze.....and here's me who lives here, passed Firenze in the car in June and yet has still not had the joy of visiting and enjoying it. I might go this autumn as I want to go to a place over near san Marino for family reasons so I 'could' detour.....
I've visited Pisa several times when on my way to Elba (which I adore) but I/we just never got to see the wonders of Florence and Siena.

I envy those of you who have 'seen and enjoyed'!

PS - Love the photo Katerina..... With that backdrop - who could ask for more?

I was about to give you a scolding Carole for having never gone to Firenze, but then I realized Im guilty of worse crimes - like going to london numerous times but always just for shopping :D Refusing to go to Pisa because of all the hype, going to Sorrento on 3 different occasions, yet still I havent seen Pompeii or Naples (other than the train station that is :D) ... So I suppose I'll have to forgive you on this one. You must get down there at somepoint though! Preferably when there are less tourists, and stay the night, the city is so wonderful late at night and early EARLY in the morning before the tour busses get there.

Ah mia Firenze - La nostra Firenze - ╚ la cittÓ pi¨ bella del mondo.

Nice to see your pic Katerina. The Ponte Vecchio does make for a lovely backdrop.

Lori - Where was the Palazzo Vecchio photo taken from - top of the Duomo? I've never seen such a clear foto from that angle.

Actually it was taken from the tower. I'd never climbed the tower before, so I talked my friend into it rather than the duomo this past summer. It was really nice, as there were a lot more levels to stop take a break and take photos from, as well as way less people! All of the views of the duomo were great as well, I've got some photos posted on my blog....

Unfortunately these are some of my Walmart negatives on CD photos... They really did a crappy job scanning the negatives. The prints are a lot nicer
