I read an article last week in our newspaper about pedicures. I thought about how my hairdresser said he nearly gagged over the condition of his date's feet. She was a beautiful fashion model with excellent grooming except for her feet. He said she was wearing sandals that revealed more corns than Orville Redenbacher has. It's a brand of pop corn in the U.S. I started to pay more attention to how my feet look now that summer is here and I'm wearing sandals more often.

Any how, the girl who wrote the article about pedicures said the cheap one she had done was just as good as the expensive one. This one will cost $45.00.

So, I have some extra money of my own laying about and I called and made an appointment for a pedicure at a nearby beauty salon at 9:00 a.m. tomorrow.

I'm getting the "sea serum treatment" which the brochure I have said is recommended for thick calloused feet. My feet aren't that bad but what the heck. The pedicure takes one and a half hours.

I keep my toe nails neatly trimmed and always polished. I also use a skin buffer on the heels and other hardened (calloused) areas.

I also bought a cute sterling silver toe ring which looks nice when I'm wearing sandals.

I'm looking forward to this treat for my feet.

Anyone else out there get pedicures and can tell me about them?

Okay Terry, I'm asking you as a man, what do you like to see in regards to a woman's feet?

Do unkempt feet turn you off? Do you like to see natural colors or bold colors on a woman's feet??

I do not care about what color 's are on feet just as long as they are soft and sexy! Very Happy

But what is a real turn off for you Terry, besides the feet smelling like cheese?

Never had a pedicure (no desire for one), but I spend most of my time barefoot if I don't have to be wearing shoes. I just don't find shoes (or socks) comfortable. My children are the same way - not my influence, just their personal preference. Even my husband is going barefoot more often - but it's beneficial for him, as he's a lettercarrier with a walking route, so his feet take a beating every day.

If I could go barefoot every day and everywhere, I would. Some day, when I can afford to make myself a nice pair of moccasins, then I'll wear moccasins in the winter and out in public. Until then, I have to deal with shoes. Eh?

When I was visiting Canada in the 90's I purchased a pair of hand made reindeer hide mocassins. They are , despite being used regularly, still in pretty good shape. The leather is so very soft that wearing them is like having bare feet.

I was told that they were made by some 'native Americans (Canadians?) in northern Alberta.... but I wouldn't hesitate to buy another pair. They do my 'poor old pins' a world of good!

I always went barefoot as a child. The result is tough, calloused feet. I have since advised my daughter that if she wants to keep smooth, nice feet without hard, calloused bottoms she should always wear socks or shoes especially on hot pavement which is where I ruined mine. So far it's working and her feet look beautiful, pink and soft. Of course she's very young, but no sense in letting her ruin her feet like I did to mine when I know what caused it.

Now I'm off to my pedicure. This is my first one and up until a couple of weeks ago I had no desire for one either. I'm in a pampering mode at this stage of my life. As a young mom I had very little, if any pampering and now I feel it's my turn.

Hi Rosie,

I get a pedicure down every month in the summer and every other month in the winter. Not only does it make your feet look better it makes your back feel better.

My girl is the same one that does my nails and only charges me about $20. She gives me the whole treatment and uses the spa chair where you can have a body massage as she works on your feet. Its HEAVEN!

I always went barefoot until about 5 years ago and I never have dried feet or callouses by now I find it hard to go without slippers on or sandals! As musch as I love my pedicures I hate when she scraps the dry skin off..it always tickles me and I can't help but crack up every time.

Diane always paints my toenails and then she hand paints images on my toes..palm trees, flowers, etc. Its gorgeous...she's amazing!

Toe rings...aren't they great? I own like ten now..no better way to show off a nice pedicure. Need to make an appointment...didn't go yesterday...

Moccasins are really popular here right now. When we go up North to the trailer theres this little Indian place which sells them at a fairly reasonal price. If you want another pair Carole let me know and I'll pick a pair up for you and mail them over. Niagara Falls sells lots of them too.

Nuccia, the pedicure was pure heaven!!! No wonder you love them!! I can get a mini one for a lot less so maybe I'll do that.

I think it is a good idea to get them once a month in the summer. When my daughter saw how nice my feet looked she said they looked nice enough to model them. My son looked at them and said, "so, they look just like when you polish your toenails yourself." Men...........!

Nuccia, have you ever found 14 kt. gold toe rings and if so where? I really like my silver one but would like gold to go with my ankle bracelet in 14 kt.

I wonder if they would paint images on the toe nails at this place I went to? Have you ever gotten a facial done? I'm thinking about taking advantage of their other services because this pedicure was such a wonderful experience.

The girl there told me to apply Vicks Vapo Rub to my feet and then wrap them in plastic before going to bed at night. I've read about a lot of healing uses this stuff has.

As for my back I wrecked it lifting a heavy desk chair (packed unassembled in a box) off the ground for my neighbor Marge. I've been helping her shop and move things to her new place close by. Now my back really hurts from this.

Rosie,

I'll check into the gold toe ring for you..yes I believe they have them here so if I find one I'll check out the styles and prices and get back to you about it...I think I have an idea of your likes by now..

Facials, yes I've had them done...get the European facial done..It goes down to your neck and I tell you, your face just glows afterwards. A bit more pricey but worth it and you don't get one all the time. If you ever come to Canada I'll try to book an appointment where a Friend of mine's mother owns a beauty school and usually gives us a hell of a deal on a full package. I ususally go for my birthday every year but didn't go last year. I swear it was cheap...(it pays to have good friends).

When I got off my "heavy makeup kick" I began investing more money in skin care products instead. No cheap stuff for me. Sometimes Lancome has special sales (by invitation only) and I have gotten lots of great products for less than half the price. They just had one here but I'll keep you in mind for the next one...hopefully they'll send me an invitation again.

Be careful with your back...once you do damage its difficult to repair. There are several good excercises you can do..see your doctor and I'll see if I can find any info from when I hurt my back..

Hugs

Thanks so much Nuccia!!!!

I rarely go to a doctor. It's been over a year and all it was for was a check-up. I've done this before and it is usually better in a few days.

I think you've given me a great idea for Christmas, birthday and anniversary gifts, facials, massages and pedicures.

It pays to have a friend in the business.

Do you have a 14 kt. gold toe ring?? My pedicurist said maybe people would be afraid to lose this type (14 kt.) easily but the silver one I have stays on the toe nicely. It's a band with a flower on it. So why wouldn't one made of real gold stay on just as well as a cheaper silver one? I think it would.

Rosie,
I just made a call to a reasonable jewelers here and they have 10 carot gold toe rings for between $50-$80..but if you buy two you get the second for 1/2 price.

I think I'll check around since now you have me curious and see whats out there..give me an idea of what you want..simple or with a stone, etc. This place didn't have one with a lady bug but that doesn't mean I can't find it downtown at one of the street vendors. And remember, its Canadian money so US money should be less..

Can't wait to go out, now...hubby's gonna flip...I love it!

Nuccia, I just did a google search and found a 14 kt. gold ladybug toe ring for $42.95 on line. I found a couple of places that have good selections on line and added them to my favorites bar on the computer. I'll probably order this one but they've got several others as well even cheaper.

Thanks so much!!

Nuccia, I ordered the double ladybug toe ring on line. It's 14 kt. gold with enameled ladybugs which will match a bracelet and necklace I already have.

It was only $38.46 including the shipping and a 15% off discount coupon for ordering it today.
