Incredibly nice weather the last few days - reminds me of when I was little, the feeling, the breeze and tranquil. 80F today and L.A. was 56!

Flowers are coming up - the snow drops (without snow around them), crocus, now daffodils.

Garlic poking through too, so they were damaged - my cousins will be happy. I'm going to mail three of them a bag to sustain them until they come to visit (another wedding soon).

Lots of work to do, cutting old rose branches, getting the garden ready.

The primrose I bought at Aldi's did not last very long. Does anyone know anything about these? The garden book says there is one variety that blooms just once and then dies - maybe this is the reason. Lots of buds, then blah.

Trying to get a Christmas Cactus to bloom - have seen some in windows and at the copy center that were huge.

Slug is happy to roll around outside. He might as well sleep out soon but for now is snoring at the end of my bed.

Most of all, how is everyone? Always worried about everybody.

Dave

Weather around here is very similar to what you described. We also have flowers busting out of the ground a bit earlier due to the mild Winter and very days recently. I saw something about on the news about the cherry blossoms coming out before the big Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington, DC. I just hope that the lack of snow during the Winter will not lead to a shortage of water in the upcoming months! Off to read a couple emails.

Today was nice again - 10 degrees warmer than L.A. Brought the laundry up and my mother insisted on hanging it on the line (worry beads would be handy)

Then there was an alert for down in the south part of the county heading east: A thunderstorm that popped up due to the daytime heating. Later it got clearer but was very dark in the east - could hear thunder. That storm should have been far to the south but it wrapped around to the east as well.

All the lakes around here are our water supply, including Ontario and Erie but with good rain it should be alright. You would think with all the storms in the country, we could salvage some of the water for emergencies or at least get it to drought areas.

Like your idea about salvaging some excess rain to help the areas in trouble!

Considering all he flooding in the Midwest and the drought in the Southwest, you would think someone could come up with a plan to pipe some of that excess to the dry areas.

Someone is always trying to ship water from the Great Lakes but that water is shared by us and Canada, so we have a good relationship with them about protecting the fresh water source and keep the levels at a sustainable point.
There is a lot more going on besides drinking water too - fisheries and shipping among them.

The flood waters would have to be cleaned but that should not be an insurmountable problem.

This is the second try to reply...computer likes to hang up...

So, Feels Like Old Time October now. Monday temps were down to 20F and the beautiful magnolia blossoms went from white and pink to brown.

Back to parka and scarf -

The maple sugar run has been cut short because of the warmer weather earlier, but now the apple growers are worried that early buds on the trees will be killed by the frost.

And they are saying to expect some snow on Saturday morning. I had worried that putting the snow shovels away would be noticed by Mother Nature.

It got cold here on Tuesday and I heard that the sugar people are hoping it will come back.

Would it be too late to resume the maple run? Maybe the sap is still flowing in the trees...guess I have to read up on that.

Today was better and the sheets got put on the line - Slug slept on the steps in the sun...I put his rectangular bed there and he got in right away. Now he is in his donut bed on the porch.

Garlic is coming up - the cold won't bother that root crop and the parsley is safe too.

Up to 65 in a few days and then back down- confusing. The Canada Geese were going back and forth with the weather changes, instead of staying in the south.

We need a border to keep Canada geese in Canada. They take down too many of our planes and they leave too many gooey deposits in our yards and parks!!!

There was a problem with waterfowl at Emerson Park on Owasco Lake a few years ago. Then they hired someone with sheepdogs (I think the Australian variety) and that kept them from being on the lawns and beach, leaving messes.

Birds and planes colliding is a problem that I read was being worked on - mostly it happens on takeoff and departure so keeping the birds away then is what they were concerned with.

There is something majestic about long lines of V echelons in the sky, honking away. As long as they are harbingers of Spring only. Not that other time.

Speaking of weather, it is supposed to get cold and snowy again in the UK and I worry about not hearing from Emmy!

Is Emmy already over there? Have to check what she said.

So strange that the weather in Europe is (or was) so different from this side.

Can't she check in from any computer?

I'll worry along with you...

Shortly after Sully made that miraculous landing in the Hudson we were heading someplace in NYC, on the Hutch, and stopped at one of those ancient gas stations. Behind the building is a canal, I forgot the name, full of Canada Geese. I'm pretty sure that this canal ends up by LaGuardia Airport!!!!

Hi
I'm here(lol) never been away!
We have had some beautiful weather her too and 3 days ago I put out my 6 fruit trees that were in the consevatory for the winter, the fig one had figs on it and another one had a few lemons on the others they are all in bloom.
Surprise surprise!! This morning when I got up at 6am I couldnt believe my eyes!! SNOW!! and wind as well.
It was too late to bring all the trees back in again so I really dont know what will happen to them now. Not sure if this bad spell will have an effect on my blackcurrant bush as well, it and the apple trees and the plum trees were all beginning to get blossom. Its forecast wer will be having this weather for the next few days.
I have my 3 grandchildren for the next 3 days and again next week and they were telling me when they were coming up in the car the roads were really bad, probably the main roads would be OK so D-i-l was going to go back home to her work via the main roads even although it was a longer journey. thank goodness my heating is fixed Very Happy
Hope you are all ok
Emmy
