When my son and d-i-l came back fro their holiday they brought me back a Japanese painting kit. No instructions were included, but they had been told what all the things were. It seems first I have to make my own ink by grinding the ink stick with a little water in the dish provided, then there are special brushes etc The only thing is it looks so lovely I feel its a shame to start using it d'oh! .
But tonight I have ordered a book which hopefully will give me illustrated instructions.
If there is anyone out there who knows about this form of art I'd be grateful for any tips.

Yesterday I did my first Chinese painting - a pine tree with a crane(bird) both symbols of longevity but I used painting ink I already had, thought that was better to practise with.

Then I thought I'd do a dragon weaving in and out of smoke chasing a pearl of wisdom, thought it would be an interesting thing to give my grandson as a birthday card.

Then I was informed that the dragon is a symbol that could be linked to opium seems there is a saying 'Chasing the Dragon' means using opium?? I've never heard of that before!

Well I can assure you my dragon is a good one because it's supposed to bring prosperty and lots of other good qualities too and my one was just chasing the 'pearl of wisdom' (Just wonder what it wanted that for??)

Maybe I should have said that saying wasnt just related to opium users. What I was told 'Chasing the dragon' didnt just mean opium but all illegal drugs in general.
Well that's one dragon I wont be chasing -- maybe I should try to catch it and feed it some of my medication i.e. use it as a guinea pig for trials Very Happy Very Happy

guess most men use electic razors now but its true about using the shaving foam.
you just squirt some of it on to a piece of baking parchment paper then add little drops of coloured ink onto the sahving foam then mix it around with a cocktail stick and once the colour is mixed you just place a clean piece of paper onto the foam then lidt it off and then wipe over it with a piece of kitchen roll and you get a lovely marbled coloured piece of paper to use when doing craft work. It works really well on the glossy card you use for printing out photographs on the computer.
