Well nothing much is happening here at the moment (both here at home and on the forum Sad )
After having had my granchildren for three days my house is very quiet now so today I've decided I'm going to sit down and start my painting again- at least that's my intentions at this moment.
I hope everyone is OK and Liz if you read this post I hope you had a wonderful holiday.

Emmy xx

A few of my car racing friends are at it again and I think I've gone to cars races about 4 or 5 times in the last two weeks. There are three tracks in my area the closest one runs two nights and the other two usually one night each. I went to the races Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday. I skipped Friday and took Anne to the shore for dinner at a nice little outdoor seafood place. If you haven't figured it out yet, this means we haven't had much rain as at least one night of racing gets rained out.

Gil are you just a spectator or do you take part in the races??
Dont know much about car racing my first thoughts are it could be dangerous Think Think is it??
Bet Anne enjoyed being taken out for her dinner Applause Applause
If the school timetables are the same as here her school vacation will soon be over. The teachers go back tomorrow but they have two days for in-service and the children go back on Wednesday. Thank goodness that doesnt matter to me any more Dancing Dancing
Today has been a glorious day a bit too warm for me in the early afternoon but it meant I had to water all the plants again tonight and I had just been getting used to the garden being watered from above!!! (usually overnight)

Take care
Emmy

I'm just a spectator these days. I never did race, but did help some friends work on their cars back in my younger days. Now I spend some time at night bugging one of my friends while he works on his car or some of his equipment. I might put tools away, grab a wrench, help clean up, etc. Just the easy stuff.

We had a good time at the seafood place except the evening was pretty cool and it was seating under the tent or the stars. We both agreed that next time we go there it will be light out!

Anne retired from teaching a the end of June and still waiting for her first check! Schools where I live start around the end of August or the beginning of September. The teachers go in for a day or two before the students show up like they do in Scotland. When I was a kid school didn't start until Labor Day, the US holiday to honor workers, celebrated on the first Monday in September. Now the school year has been lengthened with the hope of the students learning more! This is a basic idea as dates vary among the 50 states.

Stay healthy!

Update to above post......... My daughter teaches Special Ed. Preschool and her first day is next Wednesday (8-25-2010) and the students come back the following Monday. If Anne didn't retire she'd be going back on the 30th and the students would come back on Sept. 1st. School would run for three days and then they all have have Monday the 6th of September to celebrate Labor Day. When we were in school we didn't go back until after Labor Day. Our daughter, Angela, teaches in Madison, CT where our lost friend Maria lives. Small World!

Just thinking about your daughter Gil now she'll be going back with a different name -Mrs ?? instead of Miss ?? Very Happy Very Happy but maybe she'll have been back since she got married time passes so quickly you tend to forget. She's in a very interesting job one that I'm still very interested in - the pre School Years and special Ed too. Has she ever heard of the 'Bird Stick and Ball' Programme developed by Renee Fuller? Or the Glen Dolman proramme 'Teach Your Baby to Read' There's also another very good book ,'The Growing Brain by John Brierly. Oh I'd better stop or I'll be looking them all out and going over them again and I've a birthday card to make for my granddaughter d'oh!
Is Anne going to miss going into school?? I think no matter how much you want to retire and want to be with your partner 100 percent of the time it does take a bit of getting used to not having a routine to follow, but now I only wish I had retired sooner I certainly wouldnt want to go back to all the paper work needed now.
Just wonder if Maria ever pops in to read the posts just wish some of them would post even if its just to let us know how they are.
Now one thing you must do Gil is not to forget to take Anne a cup of tea /coffee in the morning before she gets out of bed. Dancing Dancing Dancing

The last I knew Angela, my daughter, is keeping her maiden name in keeping with Italian tradition. Also, her two older cousins here and one or maybe two of her males cousins' wives have kept their maiden names. Needless to say the three very distant cousins that she got together with in Naples all kept their maiden names. Funny thing is my daughter-in-law changed her name - good American girl!!!

The only books I can remember are the "Clifford the Big Red Dog" books as I have patched a few of them for Angela. Anne gets up before me even if we have to go somewhere. She feeds the cats and has her first coffee in peace while she watches some early morning shows. Funny thing neither of us has ever liked to eat or drink in bed. Well, except Anne when she was in the hospital having babies an me when I was there from getting sick from smoking.

I don't think she will miss school as there is too much red tape these days. She will probably miss some of her coworkers and seeing that the school is only five minutes from home it won't be too hard to visit now and then. Me on the other hand have over an hour ride by car when I visit my former coworkers every now and then.

Very Happy

Here's the same Gil too much red tape, sometimes I think the powers that be believe teachers dont have a brain in their head but in truth the opppsite maybe the truth because many of the 'big shots' who make up all the rules etc. have never had to sit in a classroom on their own and try to teach 20/30 children. If they did i think things would definately change.
Its good that Anne isnt far from the school-- it really is nice to pop in and know you can pop out anytime you want to Dancing Dancing Dancing

Dont know about the weather over beside you but here ?????
one minute the sun is shining next its pouring rain.
So its a case of trying to get the washing out when you see the sun and keep an eye on the sky!!
I got help to get my shed cleaned out on Saturday - you wouldnt believe the things I found that I had forgotten I had bought. Now I've got loads of new garden tools that I doubt if I'll be able to use now! We found a box full of old comics dating back to the early 70's pity the mice must have had a good read of some them too. There was also a memorial 'dish towel' celebrating Celtic football club winning a trophy (cant remember which one it was now)dated 1964!!
My son-in -law said he would like it if no one else wanted it. So I washed it and gave it to him. I was beginning to think I could have started up my own 'Antiques Road Show'.
Now I have to take care how I say this because I'll tell you later the excuse I gave to my d-i-l when she took my BP and it was way up over the top AGAIN! With having been involved with sorting out all the things in the shed-because the man who helps me said he wasnt throwing anything out this time without me telling him twice after the last time when my wedding dress went to the dump by mistake! I was really tired out and I knew I had overdone things. But this is the excuse I gave to my d-i-l "I told you not to take my BP just now, I knew it would be high
I've been in the garden shed with the gardner all morning!!" She just burst out laughing and told me I'd better rephrase what I had just said
In future Silenced Silenced Silenced Silenced
Emmy Very Happy Very Happy

We're having sun, humid, then rain, sun again, more humidity...
Tourists are getting crazy, because as soon as they are on the beach, it starts raining... and when they go away from the beach because of the rain, the sun begins to shine again.... d'oh!
