Well tomorrow I'm back to the Dr's to pick up a BloodPressure Monitor which I will have to use for 4 days. Thank Goodness I dont have to have it on all the time, guess I will have to use it 4/5 times a day. This is to find out if there is any difference in my BP when I dont take the medication. If there is no difference then it means I'm taking a medication I dont need- and it is one I really would like to stop taking. So keep your fingers crossed the results come out in my favour.

Thanks Gil
But d'oh! d'oh! d'oh! it didnt work out as easily as I had planned.
The nurse took a BP reading just to check the monitor was working OK and she couldnt believe her eyes!!! My BP was even higher than it had been when I was sent to hospital the last time Anxious So she took it again but the reading was still much about the same.
Bombshell!!! she informed me she would have to go to talk to the Dr -- My first thoughts 'I pray I wont be sent back into hospital again!!' My prayers were answered -all the Dr's were out on call Applause Applause Applause So she told me to go home and take all the medication, sit and relax for the rest of the day and to keep a record of the BP and go back to see her this morning.
Thank goodness my BP has now gone down quite a bit and she has suggested that I keep the monitor for a bit longer so they can get a better idea why this is happening.

Two good things came out of this, (Though my family dont agree with me)while chatting to the nurse it seems 2 of her friends have some pets they are looking for homes for (rabbit and guinea pig) so I'm seriously thinking about it now that my two 4 legged visitors are back to their own home again and I miss having them.

A much calmer Emmy

New pets! What a way to lower BP? Sometimes my BP is high when tested the first time and after I sit a bit it is lower and close to normal. I try to tell the nurses, usually to no avail, that the charts state RESTING BP!

Gil this is what my nurse told me to do, Sit down and rest for at least 5 minutes before I take the first reading (she said usually the 1st reading is the highest) after the first reading wait a few minutes then take a second reading and if need be wait a while again and take a third reading. What I had been doing was taking one reading then waiting for a few hours and taking the 2nd reading d'oh! (It said on the leaflet to take 2 readings a.m. and two readings p.m. My misunderstanding!!) So it was decided that a new chart would be started and I've to keep the monitor until next Monday so that's giving me even longer to check how the medication is working.
Off to sit and RELAX now - talk about being a lady of leasure !!!!!! lucky for some eh!! Very Happy Dancing Very Happy

I hope that they find out how the regulate your blood pressure. I remember the days when I had "low blood pressure"! It was not too long ago and I was even smoking cigarettes then. When I mentioned that my BP was low when I smoked and only got worse after I quit smoking - he was not too happy with me.

Probably smoking would be making you feel relaxed, Gil then when you stopped, missing the cigarettes would cause you to be stressed.
I knew on Monday I was feeling stressed out going for the BP monitor just in case my BP was high and I'd be sent back to hospital. I WAS stressed the first reading was 223/123 which I know myself was dangerously high but it was stress that was the cause of it. Glad to say now I've got used to taking my BP again its almost back to normal.
Problem is I doubt if I'm going to find out if I can stop one of the pills because taking it every 2nd day it wont be out of my system It would be better if I stopped one of the pills for a week and took readings then stopped the other one for a week while taking the previous one then I would know if I had to take both or not. Just maybe suggest that when I go back to see the Dr.
Think maybe another good idea would be to drink a whole bottle of whiskey first thing in the morning and that would knock me out for the rest of the day Think Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

The answer I got is that the cigarettes damaged the lungs making them harder to get oxygen> Therefore, the damaged lungs make the heart work harder. There are also some veins with plaque (hardening of the arteries) due to my diet over the years. I think we need to relax and not let little things bother us to help keep our BP down.

Gil I guess that 4 letter word isn't in our dictionary Very Happy I'm quite sure after all this time one thing is for certain I definately dont know the meaning of that word.

Well BP monitor has been handed back on Monday and I go to discuss the results with my Dr next Monday. My BP has gone down but there didnt seem any difference in the readings whether I was taking the BP pill or not. I had said that it would be better not to have taken the bp pill for the whole week instead of every 2nd day (I feel it would still have been in my system)and it would have given a moe accurate result but I have been told that taking bp readings when not taking the bp pill over a week or so shouldnt be done unless I was under constant observation (that means in hospital d'oh! ) Seems the first readings taken last week they term as being at 'stroke level' Think so I guess I'd better not play with fire and just swallow the pill and put up with the side effects.

Maybe I'll think about buying a new dictionary with the meaning of that awful word in bold print Silenced Think Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

I was beginning to worry about you when I didn't see any new posts on here as it seems that we are just about the only regular users here these days. I am glad that you had some fun with your grandchildren. I hope that they were good medicine for you.

I had a stroke level reading one night a few weeks ago when I was trying to balance a friend's checking account. The next day I told him I was getting too old for this and if he didn't pay more attention to his own books and records he might be looking for a new accountant. It isn't worth getting sick trying to help someone.

I agree with you there Gil. I guess you and me are in the 'same boat' at the moment. I know my weight has a lot to do with my BP being high but that's not the main cause -- every time I go to the Dr I know my BP reading is going to be 'through the roof' because I can feel myself getting really stressed out the minute I walk in the surgery. Silly ? YES! but I think its the thought he may send me to hospital again. So its obvious he wont get a correct BP reading while I'm there:-#
The other thing is I worry about everything and everyone all the time and often try do do things for others that just cause me more stress and I constantly get lectures from my family just to stop and think of myself for a change and to sit down and relax and I think that's what you need to do too.
(Easy for others to say stop worrying but its not so easy to do)

At the moment I'm quite sure its the two pills I'm taking to lower my stress levels that's bringing my BP down.

I'll have another good day on Friday, although I'll miss the craft class I go to, I'm having the 3 grandchildren again for the day so if the weather is OK I'll take them out to the animal park and who knows I may just come home with 3 children plus 2 guinea pigs. (I was too late in making up my mind about the rabbits they were all gone by the time I went to see the nurse on Monday. d'oh!
