I had to take Gizzy back to the vet again on Thursday because he had started to shake his head again, just like the last time when they said he had an ear infection. But again Gizzy wouldnt let the vet have a good look inside his ears even with the muzzle on! Vet did say it looked as though there was a large hard piece of wax lodged in one ear and said it perhaps could be a seed or something from the garden has got in his ear and he said I would need to take Gizzy to the main surgery this morning and he would need to be sedated so they could have a good look and then flush any foreign bodies out. So I had to have him there for 9am but they hadnt told me not to give Gizzy any food and I had fed him at 7am that meant he had to stay at the surgery nearly all day and he didnt get his ear done until after 3pm and I got him home around 5.30 pm but his ear must still be sore because tonight he's becoming a bit aggresive if I go near to pat him so I'm leaving him just to sit quietly for tonight.
I think my two dogs must like me spending money because since the beginning of this year they've cost me a fortune and where Gizzy is concerned I could have done that myself without him being sedated if only he would sit still- I must be using the wrong 'doggy talk' and he hasnt understood what I was telling him. Silenced Silenced Think Think but saying all that they're worth evry penny spent on them. And it was a large piece of wax that was in his ear afterall. I've a feeling that was what had caused the problem the last time too and it hadnt been noticed. Think

Sorry to hear that he is suffering again and that you are paying more veterinary bills.

Gizzy seems more like his usual self today I guess yesterday he wasnt quite himself and his ears must have been sore both Gizzy and Bengy certainly slept longer than usual last night I think Bengy must have been coming out in sympathy with Gizzy Think Very Happy Very Happy

After all the carry on with the antibiotics with Gizzy and then having him sedated to get his ears cleaned out -- Yes its started all over again, he is keeping shaking his head same as before so when I was up at the vets on Monday with Bengy (he was having another blood sample taken d'oh! ) I mentioned about Gizzy and it seems the next thing that could be happening he will need to get a swap taken and have it sent away to be check to find out which antibiotic will work.
Tell you something for nothing-- I've come to the conclusion its much easier taking care of sick children -even when they are too young to tell you what's wrong - than it is dealing with your 4 legged ones d'oh!

Think Think Think I think it would be much easier just to get my pension paid into the vet's account every month instead of my own account!!

Would you believe this!!!
My vet phoned me today to let me know about the blood tests for Bengy and although its getting better its still a bit to go so he's to go back in another 6 weeks to have another blood sample taken and then if its still the same he may have to have the dosage of the medication increased. While the vet was on the phone I mentioned about Gizzy and the fact he was shaking his head again as though there was still something in his ears so the vet thought it would be better if I took him back in on Monday morning, Gizzy's not to get any food before he goes in case he has to be sedated again (not happy about that Anxious )

Now as I said at the start:

Since that 'phone call this afternoon not once has Gizzy shaken his head as though something was wrong with his ears

Guess its like when you have an appointment at the dentist when you get there the toothache disappears.

I'm just begining to wonder just what kind of dog I have.

Maybe he understand what you says and listens to your phone calls...
Try making a fake phone call to the vet every day... maybe he just does not want to go to the vet!

Our older cat, Luca, was shaking his head like he was shivering from being cold and the vet found out that he has Thyroid problems. He is now on some pill and no more shaking and putting a bit of weight back on. Good luck with your pooches!

Right now I'm not sure I should be taking Gizzy back to the vet tomorrow.
He's certainly not shaking his head very often now and he does let me touch his ears without any problems. My big worry is I really dont want him to be sedated again if its not needed, because there is still a risk with that being done. On the other hand if there is another reason for this happening ( just like your cat Gil) then I guess its better being safe than sorry.
But I think I'll have a discussion with the vet before I leave Gizzy with him.

It's a good job I did go with Gizzy to the vet this morning.
He didnt need sedated and didnt even need a muzzle on and he let the vet examine both is ears without even a growl. So I presumed everything was OK but it wasnt. Seems the ear that was cleaned out the last time he was sedated still has something deep inside vet described it as being like soft squashy wax but there is definatley an infection there.
I've to take him back in two weeks- meantime I've two lots of different pills to give Gizzy. d'oh! d'oh! d'oh!
One lot he has to get 1 1/2 pills twice a day and the other lot he gets 1/2 a pill for the first 8 days then 1/4 of a pill daily for the remaining pills that are left.
What with my pills and Bengy's medication and now Gizzy's AND taking care of my Zebra Finch 'Emegency Ward 10' doesnt have a look in.

Maybe if I just put all the pills down on the floor (mine included) and the dogs and me got down ( Think maybe not a good idea -I probably wouldnt be able to get up again Very Happy ) and just picked and chose which ones we wanted we may all become OK.

Odd eh! two wee pooches cost me a fortune on medication and yet the big me get all mine free of charge
Very Happy Very Happy
