This morning I was glad I noticed this little bundle of spikes before I reversed the car down the driveway.

This is the first hedgehog I've seen this year It definately is a young one but it looked healthy enough so I put him away up at the very back of the garden beside some undergrowth havent seen it again so hopefully it will be ok. There's definately plenty of slugs etc about for it to feed on so there is no need for me to put out tinned dog food for it.

Well my little visitor was trying to confuse me today. Normally they dont stay out in the open during the day but for most of the afternoon it was just sitting in the middle of my green, not moving even an inch. I was really bothered about this and about 4pm I decided to 'phone the RSPCA to find out if they wanted to come and collect it or if I should move it or just leave it on the grass. As I was talking to the wildlife officer on the phone I looked out of the window and my little Harry H. had done a runner!! d'oh! . So it was decided just to leave him to his own devices. Later on, twice, I had to lift him off the driveway again and tonight he was in my 'little' garden round the back this time where I have a small bridge and he was crossing it!!! I just wished I had had my camera with me to video 'Harry H. actually going over the bridge- it was so funny. But I did manage to get my camera in time to take a photo of him on the bridge.
I did take a very short video clip of him walking but I dont know if it will post. I think he's cute! (Video clip wont download sorry)

I'm Harry H. and I'm thinking about crossing this bridge!

I wonder if he has rabies or something else wrong with him. I know that raccoons are to be avoided if they are out in the day and don't run from humans. This is an indication that they have rabies as they are a noturnal animal.

Please be careful!

Maybe I'm wrong about this but I dont think there is any cases of rabies in UK.
Gil when I had a good look at little Harry he was OK. I've had two hedgehogs over the past 3/4 years where I've had to call out the RSPCA to come and collect them so they could be put in a rehab centre for wildlife.
On those occasions the hedgehogs were hardly moving at all and they seemed to be shaking/staggering but given the correct care /treatment they recover. I cant remember what they said that was that caused that.

I havent seen him at all today and in some ways, for me, that's good news.

Glad to hear that you don't have to worry about rabies in the UK!
