A friend and her husband recenty celebrated their diamond wedding (60yrs)
I was so pleased for them and tonight she was showing me some of the cards etc they had received. They even received a card from the Queen congratulating them also others from prominent people in Government Posts
A photograph of the Queen is on the front of the card sent from her to the happy couple. Not many make 60yrs together nowadays.
Isnt it nice to hear good news like this.

My mom is 84 and my dad is almost 94. She was 15 years old when they got married which means they've been married 69 years in August.

Those two fought like cats and dogs so it was not always a good marriage but it did endure.

WOW! Rosie that's fantastic - what is 70years marriage ??Platinum??

Now that's definaltely not heard of often. Congratulations to them Rosie What date in August is their Anniversary.

Now Gil when will it be YOUR RUBY Wedding ? Will you be having a celebration? Why not give your wife a lovely surprise dinner out etc for putting up with you for all those years-- Now I'm being cheeky here -Silenced Silenced Silenced Silenced (No offence meant -just for a laugh)

It would have been our Golden Wedding this year but Bob died the year after our Ruby Wedding. Sad, but we did had a very good, happy marriage which leaves me with lots of happy memories.

But isnt it great to still find couples staying together all these years.

Rosie, Our anniversary is October 10th. We got married in 1970. Sorry about you losing Bob before the Big Day. If nothing else I will take my wife out. I am sure there is no big party being planned as there was nothing for our 25th. Also, my wife's two older brothers have been married longer and no big party was held. Our families celebrate these things with our immediate family, sometimes siblings and maybe a friend or two. My wife has a friend that she has been friends with since they were about 4 or 5 years old and has been married a long time too. She came to our daughters wedding and comes out with us from time to time.

Enjoy Spring!

Thanks for sharing the date (Oct 10th was my sister's birthday) Sept 13th was ours 10 years before you Very Happy Very Happy

Ditto!! we were the same, the only times there were big celebrations was when we and then when our children got married. In fact for our Ruby Wedding we told the family we didnt want to go out for a meal and just wanted to spend the day quietly at home - one surprise we did get from them was a lovely bouquet of flowers made up with the same flowers that was in my wedding bouquet and a white heather plant which sadly hasnt survived but as I said on another post I still have some of the white heather (dried) from my original wedding bouquet. I also 'dried' the flowers from the Ruby Wedding bouquet and made up a flower arrangement with them (I'll take a picture of it and post it soon)
That's great when you have friends who have known you for most of your life. In fact I feel eventually they do become to be just like 'family'.

We should enjoy each day as it comes and not just wait for the special occasions because if you sit down and think about it Every day together is a special day isnt it!

Those wedding flowers of yours were put to good use Emmy.

My parent's wedding anniversary has two dates in August because he was going into the army. They officially celebrate it on August 30th.

Gary and I will be married 35 years on August 22nd.

I've got that marked down.

Simy, oddly enough the age of 40 didn't bother me but 42 hit me...........ha, for about five minutes.
