I think I will be taking Bengy back to see the vet on Tuesday just to get him checked out.
Today he just didnt seem 'to be himself' BUT I must admit I think they have been getting too many tasty bits recently and perhaps he has put on some weight. He just didnt want to go down the steps(he has always had to be lifted back in again - but has gone out OK)
Tonight he seems a bit brighter but if I can get away early enough on Tuesday morning I should get an early appointment.
I dread being told anything bad but on the other hand I'm better to be safe than sorry that I didnt go soon enough.
He will be 11 years old very soon.

Vets not too sure about what's wrong with Bengy but he did say the growth is not what's causing the problems.
He was concerned about Bengy's breathing but Bengy has always made these noises (grunting sounds) since he was a puppy.
Something is definaltely hurting him though and he did get a really good examination today, teeth etc too.
Vet gave him an antibiotic injection and I've to give Bengy a pill first thing each morning I think it's a steriod based one/anti-inflamitory so meantime I've to stop the 'Joint-care' sticks I was giving to Bengy.
Vet also said to try to keep Bengy free from any kind of stress (eg not to give him a bath because that's one thng he defiantely doesnt like)and I've to try tempt him with any special kind of food he would like eg fresh cooked fish/chicken instead of the dried dog food.
I've to take him back on Thursday morning I heard vet say to the v.nurse that they may need to take a blood sample.
So it was off to the supermarket to buy chicken breasts and some nice haddock.
(Both the dogs had the fish tonight poached in milk- and I had some too
Dancing Dancing but I had mine deep fried in batter Yum Yum!!! Reminded me of when we had the Fish and Chip Shop Very Happy)
Right now they are both sound asleep cuddled up to each other.

Was back to the vet again today with Bengy
Vet took a blood sample today to check Bengy's thyroid function.
So now I have to wait until Tuesday for the results there is also another test being done re the blood sample but I cant remember what d'oh! d'oh! d'oh! but the results of the 2nd test takes longer.
So far Bengy seems to be perking up a bit-- must be the thought of all that chicken and fresh fish that will be appearing on his plate for the next few weeks--

Think Think Think maybe he understood what the vet had said regarding the food Think Think Think Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Glad to hear things are better. It looks like a diet my cats would love!

Emmy I hope things turn out well for your beloved Bengy.

We do love our pets like they are our children.

Gil, I give both of my girls dry cat food. I'm afraid of giving them anything else. Benny loved wet cat food but I suspect that eventually made him sick especially after all those pet food recalls and the melamine contamination. But, if I would have been giving him homemade cat food I needn't have worried about melamine.

We give ours cats wet and dry food. I figure it has to be better than the food that people buy for themselves at wal-mart.

Gil do you ever post a photograph of your cats-- I seem to 'ring a bell' that at one time you had posted a photograph.
I'd love to see them.

I posted the "grand dog" and maybe the cats a while back. Will post some of the cats soon.

My wife and her friends are totally consumed with this barn owl:

Emmy, please keep us posted on how Bengy is doing.

Barn owls are beautiful!! I have a pair of long-eared owls and their baby nesting high up in the oak trees next to our house. I did take some pictures of them but all you can see is a dark profile. I'm going to try this video link Gil. Thanks for posting it.

I'm having difficulty getting the video clips to work but I can see the images.
We had a TV prog. much the same as this one and as you say Gil you can become addicted to a prog. like that.
Nature is facinating! and I doubt if, before all this modern technology came into being, we ever gave enough thought to what all the birds/wildlife in general were capable of doing!

I remember once when I was teaching and we were doing a Nature Project. I took in an OLD birds's nest and gave a group a task--First they were to study the nest carefully then they were to take it apart and then try to rebuild it. Guess you already know the outcome! 5 very 'bright' 11 years olds each with 2 hands with 5 fingers on each after many attempts never mangaged to rebuild that nest which a little bird with only two small legs and ONE beak had in the past built it to perfection.

Guess us humans still have a lot to learn from nature.
