Last night I was just sitting down to relax when the doorbell rang.
It must have been approx 8.30pm or later because it was dark. I must admit I'm a bit apprehensive about going answering the door at night when I'm in on my own, but my wee dogs were acting and sounding as though they imagined themselves to be huge Alsatians

(they were definately not acting like they are in this picture. They DO bark and LOUDLY too at least Gizzy does, Bengy acts as the back-up but only if required in an emergency !!)
so I guessed it would be safe enough to open the door.
Who was there at this time of night?
Just a poor delivery guy, delivering goods I had ordered a few days ago.
Seems he didnt finish until 9pm.
Think Just made me realise again just how important my wo wee pooches are to me.

We now have surveillance cameras around the house and wooded areas. There are 8 of them and they do come in handy to see who is at the front door.

We got them because a man kept coming through the woods to our house. Don;t know what he wants but it can't be good. My son stays up really late and surprised the guy several times. Seems he wouldn't give up even though my son has chased him with a gun. This is a very safe area with nice homes all around so this is very unusual for us to experience here.

While cats are not known to be guardians the same way a dog is Trixie does notice when people (this guy) or animals are on one of the patios. She meows in a strange way and charges at the patio glass doors. The surveillance monitor is set up in the computer room and has a continuous cyclling of all the cameras. So when she does this Rob simply looks up at the monitor to see what's going on.

I have the security lights but no monitors.
It is a bit scary though when you find someone lurking about at night.
Here if you were to chase someone with a gun,if you were seen and reported you would definatley be charged- even if it was the burglar who was trying to break in and he reported it!!
( If you do have a gun you must apply for a special licence and must have a special secure locked metal cupboard in the house where the gun must be kept when not in use this has also to be inspected and approved by the police, and I'm almost certain this is for shotguns -(not sure if you are allowed to keep handguns) and you would also have to supply the name of the farmer/? who has given you permission to shoot on their land)
Laws are VERY strict here.

Gil
I should have explained the first photograph isnt one of my dogs, it's actually a photograph of an alsatian although I do have one of Gizzy looking just like that but couldnt find it last night when I was posting. I can assure you that Gizzy does have some VERY large sharp teeth (similar to those of the alsatian) for his size. Bengy's teeth are more like two sets of very small sharp spikes/razors and sometimes I've been at the receiving end of them when he's been a bit too excited when getting a treat -mind you perhaps my fingers are a bit tastier Whistle Whistle but he doesnt really mean to 'bite' it's just I dont deliver the goodies fast enough Dancing Dancing Dancing
Emmy Very Happy

We have gun laws here too Emmy but all of my son's guns are antiques which do not require a license. Oh yes, he does have a rifle or two but did have to get licenses for those.

My son has some authentic muskets from the Civil War.

The pistols are fun to fire but we do it on the Fourth of July here where people can mistake the sound for fire works. You must realize we have several acres of woods to the side and back of us which affords a good bit of privacy.

My son has done some beautiful work cleaning and restoring some of his arsenal but says that true antiques are more valuable left as is.
