Tonight I found some photographs of the garden when we first moved into this house. How I wished it looked like that again. I got quite a shock when I realised just how big some of the bushes etc have grown. So a little bit at a time I've decided I'm going to be ruthless and cut everything right back and use more annual plants instead of perennials. Some of the cuttings a neighbour gave me have taken over and it reminds me of the film 'The Day of the Triffids'. I do have someone who cuts my grass and my hedges but this job is going o be mine--one metre every day!!!!!
If only I could enlist the help of a dozen fairies and give them a metre each to do it would be great.

Isn't it funny how things like bushes, shrubs and trees get so overgrown in our lifetime. Big problem in my house is the women of the house, originally my Mother and now my wife, don't like to see things properly trimmed. A landscape professional recently told me that when my house was landscaped, in the late 50's, that the theory was they should probably be replanted in twenty five years.

d'oh!

My son Robert spent the entire day blowing leaves back into the woods. Our house has big oaks, in the front, sides and back woods. Believe me, there are a LOT of leaves to clean up here but we have the luxury of acres of woods in which to place them.

We do it a few times before snow falls. snowpuppet

Gil every 25 years!!! That means I could leave those bushes for another 13 years Anxious Anxious
Before we moved to this house I always pruned the bushes/trees right back and sometimes cut the roots back as well ,something like what they do with bonsai trees and I have a silver birch tree in my garden which is over 30year sold and its only about 5 feet tall.
I really do think that I need to remove a lot of the bushes but I'll take a few cuttings from them first. That's something I cant resist doing is taking cuttings and gathering seeds from any fruit/flower/vegetable then planting them to see if they will grow . I once planted a peanut in its shell and it grew to be a lovely looking plant.
Just thinking about what has to be done has made me tired already! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy
