On May 4th I had to have my precious Benny euthanised. He had been very sick for a long time and was just getting worse. We all miss him so much.

We still have Trixie and also adopted a long haired tabby named Kira, from the Love a Stray organization.

Still, I think female cats are not as affectionate as males. Benny was a very fine little guy that will never be replaced.

Oh Rosie I'm so sorry to hear about Benny. I know exactly how you must be feeling because they become just like one of the family One good thing is you know that Benny isnt suffering any more.
Bet the other cats will miss Benny too.
Take care
Emmy

Sad
Rosie, I'm very sorry for Benny. I do know how much you loved him and, like Emmy, I know exactly how you must be feeling. I had to euthanize my two cats and those days have been the worst days of my life.

Thanks for the kind words.

I've got a picture of Benny taped up on the computer desk cabinet and we've got his ashes.

Right before he was euthanised I called my son to come and be with us. Good thing Rob suggested getting some of his fur. We got some white fur from his back and some black fur from his tail.

The euthanasia did not go as peacefully as I had expected it to and I still shudder thinking about it.

Sometimes I still cry...........

Sometimes I wonder if Benny was another victim of the tainted cat food that had melamine in it from China. He got premium wet cat food that was made here in the U.S., but as some of you know, pet food suppliers here used a filler from China.

I was so distraught I never looked at the final blood tests done on him to know the diagnosis. The vet only said he was a "very sick kitty."

He acted peculiar in the week leading up to the euthanasia, almost like he had a brain tumor. He was very weak.

You're much braver than me when our last dog had to be put to sleep the vet asked if I wanted to go to be with Jackie but I couldnt go because if I had gone I just know I wouldnt have been able to let the vet do that because I loved that dog sooo sooo much and I would have had to bring Jackie back home with me and that would have been cruel too because he was suffering.

Big coward me!!!
Once I had a gemeral discussion with Bob (my l.husband) and I said there was only one thing I could never promise to do. He ask me what that would be- and I said if he was ever very ill and if he was on a life support machine and I was ever asked permission to switch it off I would never agree to it. (He hadnt even suggested that I should I was just making it clear) but I thank God I was never put in that situation.

Emmy, it was a horrible sight. I can only hope mt beloved Benny did not die in pain. He cried out after the shot was administered and then had a spasm of breath that nearly scared the day lights out of me. In comparison, my dog simply went limp, no sound, nothing. I will see my Benny's euthanasia foreverin my mind.

We got his ashes less than two weeks later. I opened the box and held those ashes to me and cried and cried.

I hope that our beloved pets are in Heaven.

Myself Emmy, I would not want to be on life support and my family knows it. I think my son would be the brave one to make the decision. I'm an organ donor but they tell me they will not allow anyone to "cut me up to harvest any viable organs I have left." I have the organ donor designation on my drivers license.

Rosie,

Very sorry to hear about Benny - I have told many pet lovers about him and his spot and how you loved him.

Haven't checked here in so long, and sorry about that too.

I hope your new cat will love you as much and you will feel better soon.

Dave
