Preamble: I never wished to learn cooking, sewing, etc. I never liked to be an housewife...

When I came to live here alone, I had to (try to) learn how to cook foods if I wanted a warm dish...
So one day, I bought frozen peas but I didn't know how to cook them... I read on the box that they could be cooked for 5 minutes with broth or 18 minutes with oil in a pan. I decided for this last solution. I put some oil, salt, parsley and garlic together with peas and turned on the fire. After about 10 minutes, I saw the peas transformed in brown and tiny "things"... Shocked So I decided to turn off the fire, put them in my dish and began to eat: cronch... cronch... cronch... they creaked! Shocked Their taste was... d'oh! I don't know... they were scorched, but as I am a very proud person, I ate them! Not talking (but my cat refused to eat them... I wonder why...)

The day after I asked to a friend why the peas were "crispy", although I followed the instructions on the box, and she answered me: water! You have to add some water!!!
So I cooked again adding WATER and they had a taste of peas...

Ok..this sounds a little strange...18 minutes in oil is a long time, no? Think

Hey I know exactly what you mean. I learned to cook early but after I got married and had my first "real" dinner party I suddenly lost all confidence. I had to call my mother to come over just to add the salt, oil and vinegar to the salad! Thank goodness I discovered salad dressing since then.

Everyone has to start somewhere I guess...the marrying of a rich man I think is really the best place to start. This way you can just hire someone to do all this for you and you can have more time to play! Very Happy

I know, but it's written 18 minutes! Read here, it's in Italian, but where there's "preparali cosė" you can see the time they suggest:

oppure in tegame con olio o burro per 18 minuti: translation: or in a pan with oil or butter for 18 minutes

LOL Crunchy Peas!! Simy thanks for sharing that, I never heard of cooking Peas in Olive Oil. I know my gram used to serve them in a bowl with Tomato Sauce, fresh garlic and parmesano cheese (she is of English/Irish descent) but yet they were delicious somehow.

Very Happy
